The Cowboys and Aliens pre-release giveaway endeavor...

One movie which I had left of the "upcoming Steampunk movies" list was a new production which will open next week, titled Cowboys and Aliens.  It has had quite a buzz surrounding it since its first trailer was released (around the beginning of the year), and though it isn't quite *exactly* Steampunk (right era, but perhaps not very Steam-y technology), it does look like quite an entertaining work!  Its official synopsis is...

"1875.  New Mexico Territory.  A stranger (Craig) with no memory of his past stumbles into the hardscrabble desert town of Absolution.  The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist.  What he discovers is that the people of Absolution don’t welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford).  It’s a town that lives in fear.

But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky.  Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these mysterious visitors challenge everything the residents have ever known.

Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation.  As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and what he’s experienced, he realizes he holds a secret that could give the town a fighting chance against the alien force.  "

A few days ago, I was contacted by a Mr. N. Sera, part of the Cowboys and Aliens market department, asking if I might be interested in doing a promotional give-away to the readers of the blog.  Never have done so before, so I figured I'll give it a shot, so to speak.  The promotional prizes are two-fold: one is a very nice t-shirt (below), with the logo of the endeavor emblazoned on its front - quite snappy!

However, what might garner the most interest is the second part of the give-away.  A replica of Jake Lonergan's wrist mounted alien artifact!  As shown below, its unique, and looks good in its original form, but I'm confident there are those who have calculating thoughts about it.  However, I was a bit vexed on how a means to provide a reasonably transparent method of running the contest, so I've outlined it below...

To take part of the Steampunk Tribune's Cowboys and Aliens giveaway, which will end on Tuesday, the 26th of July, 2011 ...

1) I'll limit the entries to an ambitious total of 100 individuals who may be interested.  If you wish to participate, please do submit your name, preferably by leaving it as a comment on the Steampunk Tribune's Facebook page, located at:
I'll end the participation either by Tuesday night at midnight, or once I've accumulated 100 individuals.
(also, I'm afraid I'm limited to offering this to individuals in the US and Canada - that's as far as they will ship the items in question!)

2) I'll list the individuals on Wednesday night, assign a pair of digits to each participant (e.g. 01 - Mr. Brown; 02 - Mr. Pink, ect...), so those who are participating can see which numbers they have for the drawing.

3) In the best Robber Baron form, I will let the New York Stock Exchange (the Dow Jones Industrial, to be specific) decide who will win, based on the final last two whole number digits from the close of the markets on Thursday.  So, if the DJI end with a reading of 12,681.32, the person with the digit "81" would be the winner.

4) I will notify the winner, who will need to provide a mailing address, which I will then forward to marketing company for the goods.

I do hope my methodology isn't too Rube Goldberg-esque, and do hope that things go well, but even so, I would certainly recommend a visit to the Cowboys and Aliens Facebook and/or their website for more information!
